Who is responsible for your data
Ligomarc Advocates is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. We are a firm of advocates practising in Uganda, with our office at Plot 17 Baskerville Avenue, Kololo, Kampala.
If you have a question about this notice, or about how we handle your personal data, you can reach us using the contact details at the end of this page.
What this notice covers — and what it does not
This notice covers personal data we collect from visitors to this website.
It does not cover personal data we hold as part of a client engagement. Information you give us once we are instructed is governed by our engagement terms, by our professional obligations of confidentiality as advocates, and — where it applies — by legal professional privilege. Those obligations are stricter than this notice, and nothing here reduces them.
If you are already a client, the confidentiality position in your engagement letter governs, not this notice.
What we collect
We collect very little. Specifically:
- Information you choose to send us through the enquiry form: your name, email address, organisation, telephone number if you give one, the nature of your enquiry, and whatever you write in the message field.
- Information you send us by email or telephone using the addresses published on this site.
- Standard technical information created when any web server answers a request — including IP address, browser type and the page requested — which our hosting provider records in server logs for security and operational purposes.
What we do not collect
This website sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no advertising technology, no tracking pixels and no social media embeds. It makes no requests to third-party servers — fonts and images are served from our own domain.
We therefore do not build a profile of you, do not track you across sites, and cannot identify you as a returning visitor.
We do not know who visits this site, how often, or what they read. That is a deliberate choice, and it is described in full in our cookie notice.
Why we use your information, and on what basis
We use the information you send us in order to respond to your enquiry, to route it to the partner accountable for that area of work, and to carry out the conflict and client-acceptance checks we are professionally required to perform before accepting instructions.
Our lawful bases under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 are your consent, given when you choose to contact us; the steps necessary to enter into a contract for legal services at your request; and compliance with the legal and regulatory obligations that apply to us as advocates.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for marketing purposes.
Enquiries submitted through this site are delivered to the responsible partner within the firm. They are not stored by a third-party form service. We may disclose personal data where we are required to do so by law, by a court, or by a regulator, and to our professional advisers and insurers where necessary.
How long we keep it
Where an enquiry does not lead to an engagement, we keep the correspondence only for as long as we need it to maintain our conflict-checking records and to evidence how the enquiry was handled.
Where an enquiry leads to an engagement, retention is governed by our engagement terms and by the record-keeping obligations that apply to advocates.
Specific retention periods are being confirmed against the firm's records policy.
Where your information is held
This website and its hosting infrastructure may process data outside Uganda. Where personal data is transferred outside Uganda, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that it is protected to a standard consistent with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- be told whether we hold personal data about you, and to be given a copy of it
- have inaccurate or misleading personal data corrected
- have personal data erased or destroyed where we no longer have a lawful reason to hold it
- object to the processing of your personal data
- prevent processing of your personal data for direct marketing
- withdraw a consent you have given, at any time
How to exercise a right, or complain
Write to us using the contact details below and tell us what you want us to do. We will respond within the period the law allows.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Office, which supervises compliance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 in Uganda.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice if the way we handle personal data changes. The date at the head of this page records when it was last approved.
